
The initiative is an outgrowth of the work being done by the Levy administration in the Central Islip and Brentwood communities to provide youngsters with positive, proactive alternatives to drugs and violence. ‘Kick Start’ will be conducted using existing staff members from these various county departments, providing students with access to career exploration, job-interview training, dress-for-success tips and resume writing assistance, among other things.
The Labor Department is also implementing a version of the pilot program at Bellport High School in the South Country School District. The pilot programs are under the supervision of Assistant Deputy Suffolk Labor Commissioner Janet Cassidy; if they are successful, the initiative could be extended to include additional schools.
